Integrated Production (certified)
An extremely dry year, with rainfall concentrated between December and February. The period from March to August was hotter than the average, resulting in an early vintage. With these higher temperatures during the growing season, most grapes were picked in very ripe conditions resulting in rich wines with body and depth.
SOIL TYPE
Schist.
AVERAGE AGE OF VINES
40 years
Hand picked and bunch selected on a sorting table, destemmed and gently crushed, fermented in granite presses with temperature control (25ºC to 28ºC) and foot treading, basket pressing.
12 months ageing in a mix of French and American oak barrels.
This Douro DOC Reserva wine originates from the two oldest vineyards at the Quinta, planted at an altitude of 100 m and 300 m, facing south and south-west, in schist soils, and is produced respecting nature and by following sustainable agricultural methods. It showcases the Douro old vines’ potential for producing remarkably elegant wines with good ageing potential.
At our winery, the grapes are selected manually, trodden in granite tanks and pressed in an old vertical press.
