This wine that now reaches the market is a clear, straw color. On the nose, aromas of apricot and preserved lemon peel stand out, mixed with notes of clove, nutmeg, and some white chocolate. Ample and rich flavors with white pulp fruits predominating and hints of white pepper. Creamy on the palate, with a long and elegant finish.
Esporão Private Selection White 2018, that ages for six months in French oak barrels and another six months in the bottle, is crafted using grapes from the Palmeiras vineyard at Herdade dos Perdigões, one of Esporão’s properties, facing northwest and southwest, which protects the grapes during the hottest times of the day. This year, after a dry and cold winter, a rainy spring followed, restoring the proper moisture levels in the soil to initiate the vegetative cycle. Mild temperatures until mid-summer led to a slower but fuller ripening of the grapes, which then resisted the temperatures above 40 degrees centigrade felt in August, helping preserve the freshness, aromatic intensity, and complexity of the white wines developed by David Baverstock and Sandra Alves.
