After her 23rd harvest, winemaker Sandra Alves is finishing her Esporão journey. Her career at the company has been marked by tremendous dedication and growth that have made her one of the principal figures in the history of Herdade do Esporão wines.
“I arrived at Herdade do Esporão on 16 August 2000, full of motivation, ambition, ideas and dreams. Since then, twenty-two years have gone by, seemingly at the speed of 22 months. Now, I’ve decided to bring this fantastic cycle to an end and open myself up to new opportunities, to be able to embrace other challenges, experiences, rhythms, ideas and dreams, and I’ll be leaving with confidence, joy and the feeling of a mission accomplished.” Sandra Alves
As a winemaker, Sandra has made a huge contribution to the recognition and renown of Esporão, with a portfolio rich in history, consistency and quality: “Looking back on Sandra’s time at Esporão I can only feel gratitude, respect, friendship and satisfaction for so many years well spent and for the many special wines that have left their mark on the history of Esporão. Fortune favours the brave, and it is our sincere hope that you realize your dreams.” João Roquette, Esporão Chairman
Since late 2021, Esporão’s winemaking has been led by José Luís Moreira da Silva, member of Esporão’s Board. João Ramos is the winemaker for reds in the Alentejo, Teresa Gaspar is responsible for the Alentejo whites, and Lourenço Charters continues to manage winegrowing and winemaking at Quinta dos Murças and Quinta do Ameal.
