Quinta dos Murças estate lies on the right bank of the Douro River, in the Cima Corgo sub-region of the Douro Valley.
Stretching along 3,2km of Douro riverfront the organically certified estate holds 48ha of vineyards, producing white and red Douro wines, as well as Port wine. Quinta dos Murças also has 10ha of olive grove for state owned organic olive oil production.
The estate is set apart by its eight unique terroirs, each distinguished by different altitudes, exposures and variations of schist soils. In 1947 the estate became a pioneer in the region by opting against terraced vineyards, being the very first to plant vineyard rows vertically introducing a new agriculture procedure to the Douro valley.
The region’ extreme climate, the organic agricultural practices and the innovative winemaking processes emphasize the true character of the fruit, resulting in wines with sense of the place.
Visitors can stay at the restored, early 19th century main manor house, overlooking the Douro River and visit the estate that has daily wine tourism programmes available.
