“In 2011 we launched the conversion to organic production in Murças. This production method combines the best farming practises to achieve more authentic wines with a sense of place, which is only possible in soils and ecosystems that are alive and biodiverse. Some of the most prestigious and valued wines in the world have been following this production method for decades, and are therefore a testament to the qualitative benefits of organic production”, underlines the winemaker José Luís Moreira da Silva.
According to João Roquette, CEO of Esporão, “Esporão continues its journey to discover new levels of quality, and is currently one of the leading organic producers in the world, with 100% of its crops in the Alentejo and Douro regions under organic certification, amounting to a total of 655 hectares of vineyards and 111 hectares of olive groves.”
